Grand Street Community Arts Announces Giving Tuesday Campaign

ALBANY, NY – (NOV 7, 2023) – Grand Street Community Arts announces its #GIVINGTUESDAY campaign to continue building support for the renovations of its Media Arts Community Center located in the South End of Albany. In 2021, Grand Street Community Arts launch

ed its Illuminate68 Campaign in hopes of raising funds to renovate its 5,000+ sq ft facility at 68 Grand Street (the old St. Anthony’s Church) in Albany, NY. Since the kick-off of the Illuminate68 Campaign, Grand Street Community Arts has raised over $400,00 to begin renovations. Support has come from various private donors and ARPA funding from the City of Albany and Albany County.

Renovations will include updates to HVAC units, disability access, additional restrooms, community classrooms, a new radio station/podcasting space, and after-school programming space. The renovation of 68 Grand Street is a long-awaited project that will immediately impact the South End and the Mansion Neighborhoods.

Ta-Sean Murdock, Executive Director, says “that reimagining this space into a place that can have a positive effect on underserved communities is so important. This development can bring much-needed resources to a community that has for a long time been neglected. In order for us to see change we have to be the change and it starts with an organization like Grand Street Community Arts.”

Murdock also says that the organization will not develop new programs but will seek out partnerships with other community organizations to maximize community resources to ensure that community resources are not spread thin.

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to support their communities. The whole world comes together to give back in many different ways: through acts of kindness, gifts of voice, time, talent, or treasure. Nonprofits can leverage the energy of GivingTuesday to tell their stories, engage lifelong advocates, and build an active community to support their missions.
