boardedUP! May is up
jeff.jiro.root — Thu, 05/01/2008
A set of 8 new works is up for May. This is the third month of boardedUP! and we have received a lot of positive feedback from the first two months. Madison avenue gets a lot of foot traffic and people have really come forward to tell us they enjoy the show. We've had conversations with people about what they like about some of the work, some people have shared stories about art they used to make. In fact one of the artists featured this months comes from some one who stopped to talk to us about the show and lives right across the street. We hope to extend the show for another month or two! This show is up for the month of May please come by to see before it's gone.

Last Night's Show
jeff.jiro.root — Thu, 04/10/2008
Last night's show with Kimya Dawson, Angelo Spencer, & L'Orchidee D'Hawai show was incredible!
With just over 200 people the show felt very intimate both the audience and performers seemed very engaged with each other. There were many interactions between audience and performers, with children (and adults who act like children) even taking turns on stage to help create everything from music to animal sounds (more on that later). At other times, however, the audience was very silent, completely focused on the performance.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND!!!
WE ARE ARCHITECTS: BUILDING ONE
Indoor Blanket Fort Building
Grand Street Community Arts presents, We Are Architects: Building One, a single evening, all ages, participatory art and architecture event that invites the public to collaborate in making a large-scale sculpture, based on the childhood pastime of building blanket forts. Participants will be provided with all necessary materials to construct their own structure in a designated area inside of GSCA's century old community center. We Are Architects invites everyone to join together in making a spiraling metropolis of quilt towers, duvet tepees and linen nests.
This event will culminate in a live music concert, viewable from the cozy confines of our cloth constructions. The concert will feature special music guests, Matthew Immigrant, folk loops; Lucas Rathke, minimal sounds of modern living; The Dust Dive, experimental campfire music, Dave End, children's music for adults; Scientific Maps, pop theories; Kitty Little, music you can clap your hands too . Where: Grand Street Community Arts (GSCA) at former St. Anthony's Church/ On the corner of Grand Street and Madison Avenue, 64 Grand Street, Albany, NY 12202
